Last Friday was the wedding for a long time Job’s Daughters friend and when we received an invite to their celebration I knew we had to make the trek. The wedding was near Yakima so it was the first time the boys went over the pass. Luckily the weather was gorgeous and the roads were clear.
Joel took the day off work and we left at noon for the three hour drive. We built enough time into our schedule to stop at a park a little way outside the winery where the wedding was held. We knew we had to let the boys out to run wild for a bit before expecting them to behave at the wedding.
We found a nice little park, opened the doors to the van and let the boys have at it. They ran and ran, did some sliding on the little play equipment and had dinner snacks.
Towards the end of the visit Graham noticed all the white posts and went up to one and gave it a hug. “Mmwa and hug”and he said “ooone” then he went to the next post, gave it a hug and said “two!”.
I caught Joel’s attention and we smiled at each other watching Graham. He went from post to post. All the way up to twelve before he stopped.
It was such a cute little moment.
Graham was distracted by some pine cones he picked up and started walking around and while Miles was digging in the dirt and gravel Joel walked with Graham towards the other end of the park taking the pine cones for a walk.
It was a bit of a challenge getting Graham to let go of the pine cones and eventually in tears he was back in his car seat. We wiped the boys hands down, gave them some more food and we were off.
We didn’t change them into their dress clothes until we were in the parking lot of the wedding location and unfortunately we walked in the doors about ten minutes late. The bride was already up the aisle and the ceremony had begun. Ooops. I guess it takes longer than fifteen minutes to get two squirmy worms into their little suits.
We got to see some friends we hadn’t seen since the boys were first learning to walk and walk they DID! Once the ceremony was over they were all over the place. I had brought along my camera but we had our hands full the entire time we were there. Picking them up, putting them down, following them around the reception, going outside for walks, coming back inside, trying to get them to eat some food from the buffet.
The one thing that gave us a break? Chairs!
Towards the end of our time Graham discovered he could scoot a chair across the room. Miles quickly joined in the fun and they were off.
They maneuvered around the smiling adults and Joel and I trailed behind them to prevent detours into the kitchen.
So these were the total of the series of pictures we got. None of the bride and groom and certainly none of us with them or the other friends of our who were there. Sigh. BUT we did have a wonderful time and I’m glad we went.
We snagged one family picture at the end …. CHEEESE! When did the boys get so big!?
OH and earlier in the night I went with Miles on a walk outside so he could show me the tractor he found with Daddy. Did you know it SCOOPS and then DUMPS!?
Miles wanted to take walks and walks outside. As soon as he was back in he’d look at his other parent and say “walk outside? okay” and then he was off towards the door. Graham had a great time weaving through the tables of people and showing off his pockets and the block he picked up off the jenga table. He definitely got a lot of laughs and smiles and we got lots of comments about how we have our hands full.
We made it three hours into the party before it was becoming clear it was time to make our exit. We said some goodbyes and scooped up the boys to head for the car.
The boys did wonderful with the long car trip and we had a great time.
