We’re settling in to our big new beautiful house and one thing I’m really enjoying is making improvements for the boys to enjoy their home more.
I’ve always been a fan of the “Not So Big House” concept, where instead of a mcmansion you have a home that is well thought out and uses all the space wisely. Well, we don’t really have a small house anymore, but I’m hoping we can put in some touches to make some nice areas for us and our guests to enjoy.
As I’ve been unpacking I’ve already noticed the boys have a preference for little nooks and cozy spots.
Like Graham choosing a closet to work on a puzzle instead of his large play room floor.
That and maybe he wanted to set up shop closer to me, I was working on the laundry which is right across from where he was sitting and the unpacking things into the linen closet he was sitting in.
One idea I’ve had for a while was to turn their bedroom closet into a reading nook. Reading is a large presence in our day and it’s nice to have a little place to hide away and share a good story.
We have two bedrooms for the boys and since, for now, they’re sharing a bedroom to sleep in, we have the other room set up as their “dressing room” for clothes and diaper changes. That leaves us with a closet in their “sleeping room” that doesn’t have to be used for storage.
Kerry had a chance to use the nook with the boys in the first week of us moving in. And the space seems to be just right.
We’ll need to add more pillows, perhaps some decorations and a little light for pre-bedtime sleepy time but I’m really happy we have the space thought out.
