These last few days have been surreal. I’ve had extra help with the boys from my in-laws as I’ve gotten the house and myself ready to go on vacation. And then yesterday, after three weeks of not seeing them, my parents came to our house to begin their visit to take care of Graham and Miles while we’re on vacation. Yesterday I had five hours of pampering, I got a massage, had a pedicure and got my eyebrows threaded. I also had time to run errands and do some returns that were on my todos.
Being a parent (in particular a stay a home parent) can be difficult and if you don’t have family or non-paid help to give you a regular break your brain begins to reprogram itself. You forget what leaving the house without the kids feels like, going to the grocery store is a vacation and waiting in line without having to dole out snacks and sippy cups to apease the kids is foreign.
Yes, it’s time for a vacation.
I am very lucky, very blessed and very fortunate. I have family that is willing to stay with my kids and take care of them and I can rest easy knowing they will be in good hands. We have the means to go on vacation and a support system that encourages Joel and I to have time to ourselves.
Thank you to our friends who still like to hang with us and thank you to our parents for taking care of our boys while we’re gone.
