As I’ve been getting better about having less tv and more activities with the boys we’re finding all kinds of things to occupy ourselves with.
I was unloading the dishwasher the other day while Joel was getting the boys up from their nap. I had an idea. I set up the silverware tray in front of one of the boys’ seats and put the clean caddy next to it. “I need a helper, who wants to do a new task?” Over trots Miles and he was SO EXCITED to get to sort the silver ware. It kept him busy for ten or so minutes and he helped with the housework while having fun. Just remove the sharp items and let your kid have a go at it.
Graham is ALL about the pom pom sorting. Miles doesn’t really care about sorting by color or doing matching tasks yet but you even suggest it to Graham and he’s all for it.
If your tot likes this kind of activity it’s a great way to occupy the time and have a little conversation about most anything while you work.
We were also lucky last weekend to have a marathon of time with our friends. Kerry and Tim spent the night Friday night which meant we got to have a movie party after the boys went to bed (which ended with almost all of us falling asleep on the couches). Saturday morning we let Daddy sleep in and the rest of us enjoyed a hot breakfast before lots and lots of play time with Kerry and Tim. I love seeing my friends with Graham and Miles. They genuinely love these little guys and have fun talking with them, playing and seeing how much they’ve grown.
After Daddy got out of bed we motivated and went outside for some hopscotch, tricycle riding and digging a bit in the dirt. GRAHAM AND MILES CAN RIDE TRICYCLES! I don’t know at what point it happened but Joel got the trikes out, got the boys set up and away they went, slowly peddling down the sidewalk. I’ve had so many afternoons of napping on the couch while others take the boys outside I had no idea that they’d learned to ride their trikes. I was totally amazed!
Road warrior Miles.
Graham kickin it old school style.
After trikes and a bit of digging it was time for clean up.
Later that day I drove down for a movie night in with Zandra and Michelle, a much needed break for my brain. Luckily Joel was cool with taking care with the boys more that weekend. We watched The Words, which I wasn’t impressed with, but I had a great time relaxing and catching up with some good friends. Finally on Sunday I met up with Lauren in the late afternoon for a manicure and pedicure get away and got my nails done. I don’t think I’ve had my finger nails painted since before the boys were born. It was nice. Perhaps this will be the beginning of getting back into the nail polish routine (we’ll see).
It was such a great weekend to catch up with friends and take some time out for myself. Now I’m all rested up and ready for our busy couple of weekends ahead. We’re hosting an Easter brunch at our house and then the following weekend we’ll have a couple of parties for the boys’ third birthday. GRAHAM AND MILES ARE ALMOST THREE!
