Things are cruising along in the Daveye household. We’re back from vacation and back into the swing of our day to day life. The boys will have days of being really great, playing together and good eaters and then they’ll have days where they’re constantly picking at each other and the naughty step is in high rotation. Such is the life of having three year old twin boys I suppose.
We’ve been getting some big things marked off our to do lists – we hired a doula, we’ve all but decided on a preschool for the boys (working out the financials with the school we want them to go to) and we’re starting to get our head in the game in getting ready for the arrival of our little miss.
We’re SO fortunate to have great friends who are willing to go round two with us on helping with house projects so we can get some things done before our world stops and focuses on a newborn.
Last weekend Zandra came up and stayed with us to help out. Tim also came over for several hours and we got some time to hang out, catch up and get some IKEA purchases put together. Zandra also helped Joel get a fence put up in the back yard which will give me more peace of mind letting the boys play solo while I’m in the kitchen or doing other things.
This upcoming weekend we have Kerry swooping in for fun and chores. Our major task is painting the two kid rooms. We’ve almost been in our house for a year and we have yet to do any painting. We painted almost every room in the old house so I’m looking forward to getting some color up on the walls around here.
The plan is to paint both rooms a pale blue and then put pink accents in the girl room. I’ve pinned several pictures of an argyle accent stripe idea so we’ll see how that works out.
My parents continue to come down weekly to spend time with the boys and give me a break from the daily madness. We are so blessed to have so many friends and family members in our lives.
June is right around the corner which starts the next major milestone for us – Potty Training Part 2!
With the baby arriving in August and preschool starting in September I really want to get these boys out of pull ups and using the toilet reliably.
The thing is I’m sooooo dreading this. It’s going to be very unpleasant for me and I really really really don’t want to do it.
I am really hoping the boys will take to it quickly and I won’t have too many poopy pants to take care of. They’re in pull ups now, making it easy to go on the potty when I can get them to do it. But the thing is they just don’t care to be clean. They’ll poop while they’re playing and just keep on playing. Sigh.
My only hope is to bribe them into paying attention. Jelly beans, stickers, reward chart with prizes, we’ll try it all. Let’s just get this thing done!
The boys are such little guys now – coming up with all kinds of things to talk about, using vocabulary I don’t even know where they picked it up and really observing the world around them.
I hope these upcoming transitions will go as smoothly (and quickly) as possible and I’m looking forward to seeing them as big brothers. They have so much joy and love to share already I can only imagine how they’ll be with their newborn little sister.
