We had an amazingly productive weekend thanks to our great friend Kerry volunteering her three day weekend to hanging out with us and helping us with a major project…
We had made a list of projects we’d like to do before our little girl arrives and painting the kids’ rooms was on the list – if we had help to do it. There’s no way Joel and I plus the boys running around would have taken on painting by ourselves.
Luckily we suckered Kerry into painting (again) with us in preparation for baby. She came down Friday night after work and stayed until after dinner on Monday. The bulk of our painting progress was made all on Saturday thanks to Nana for babysitting the boys all day (dropped them off before lunch and picked them up after dinner).
We started prepping the rooms first thing Saturday and that gave the boys a chance to see the project in action and see their room starting to transform.
Kerry manning the painter’s tape.
Graham decided this wall should get painted.
And Miles had fun playing with all the stir sticks while we prepped.
We got the boys’ room all prepped and got out just enough paint for the boys to help start on the painting.
Yep, that’s what we’re going to do boys, paint your room blue.
Now get going to Nana’s house!
Joel volunteered to take the boys to Nana’s so that I could stay and start painting – which I actually enjoy (it’s the set up and clean up I find miserable). And we had made pretty good progress by the time he was back.
Then Joel jumped in on the painting action while I took a break to make a burger run for lunch and left the two of them to work.
The three of us took a lunch break for Five Guys burgers and by the time we were done there had been enough drying time in the boys’ room to put up a second coat. While we waited for that to dry we worked in the girl’s room. We picked a pale blue that we used in both rooms with plans for pink accents in the girl room and blue and green stripes in the boys’ room.
Finally we had to call uncle and it was time for Joel to collect the boys from Nana’s house. While Joel did the collecting I cooked dinner and Kerry and I ate (I was STARVING). Kerry got cleaned up and headed out for evening plans which meant Joel and I enjoyed a quick bedtime for the boys. By the end of Saturday we had both rooms painted in blue and one of three accent stripes done in the boys’ room.
Sunday was a lot more low key. Kerry and Joel did touch up painting and the three of us took turns playing with the boys. I was pretty sore from over doing it on Saturday so I took a nap in the morning after breakfast rounds were done. Kerry and I took the boys out grocery shopping and left Joel with an hour of uninterrupted work time for more painting and getting the last two stripes taped off in the boys’ room. The boys had a good nap in their new blue room and Joel and I worked on marking off the argyle pattern. Then after naps it was time with the boys, dinner, off to bed and I painted the diamonds after bedtime.
By Monday afternoon we had the boys’ stripes finished.
And the final touch ups done on the diamonds.
Joel and the boys left Monday early afternoon to attend a family bbq I decided to stay home for more work and kicking it with Kerry. We painted, caught up and ate cowboy caviar in between projects.
Then we got word our great friends Tim and Mark were going to swing by for a visit. They just returned THAT AFTERNOON from Paris where they spent the weekend on a surprise trip and got engaged!
I had fun teasing them that they only came over because I had announced on Twitter that we made cowboy caviar. But I think they were just really excited to see friends after their big weekend and it probably helped with their jet lag recovery to not go straight home. We hung out for a while hearing about their trip and telling them stories about Graham and Miles. We joked about Graham and Miles’s entrance as ring bearers at their wedding and tossed around name ideas for baby girl.
Finally after a LONG afternoon out Joel returned home with the boys. All of them exhausted from a day of fun with family (and no naps).
Kerry, Mark and Tim took over the boy entertainment portion of the day and a toddler airport quickly broke out in the living room.
They were dive bombing each other with pom poms, giggling and soaring through the air on the arms of their Aunt and Uncles.
Coming in for a landing!
Mark laid down on the floor at one point which the boys took as a full invitation for wrestling.
Joel zoned out on a chair while Graham read to him and enjoyed an apple snack.
While I fixed a chicken enchilada dinner, we said good bye to Tim and Mark. We did manage to get Kerry to stay for another hour and eat dinner with us and then it was finally time to say good bye to her too. It was a very exhausting but very fun and productive weekend.
Now we’re just left with the last of the details for the argyle pattern and putting the rooms back together and we’ll be ALL DONE with our painting projects. Whew!
I should also make note about the major PASTA incident that occurred during the weekend but I’d rather not share all the details of that long story. I’ll just say thank goodness for Kerry and a daddy with a stomach of steel, and leave it at that.
