We had a great weekend of staying home, working on potty training and playing outside in the sunshine.
We also got to try a tot activity I’ve had on Pinterest for a while – painting with shaving cream.
There’s a bunch of different ways you can try this activity out but we went for the get super messy and let them go crazy method of painting outside.
You’ll need cheapo shaving cream, like you can get at the dollar store. I bought two cans of it thinking we’d go through it fast but this session only used about half of one can. 50 cents is a pretty cheap way to spend two hours of entertainment I’d say!
I put big dollops of shaving cream into tupperware containers, mixed in the food coloring and sent them outside with regular painting brushes.
I suggested they needed to paint their “pirate ship” and off they went.

The boys were so funny, I thought they’d run around painting everything but instead it was “Mommy? Can I paint the side of the pool?” “Mommy, can I paint the grass?” “Mommy? Can I paint the wheel?” They asked question after question and didn’t paint until Joel or I gave the “Yes!” answer they were looking for.
White lawn chairs made great painting palettes.
Graham grabs his paint tub and heads over to the chairs.
I thought we’d get stripped down to underwear and get super messy but it turned out to be pretty low key. I am happy to report that the shaving cream and food coloring came out of their clothes just fine in the wash and with some scrubbing with soap the coloring came off their hands too.
Now we have a new favorite activity to do in the summer sun!
