I have about five minutes to myself and something is speaking to me to get our story on this issue out so I’m pausing to post it now.
Furniture falls account for far too many accidents and deaths in the home every year. One mother is hoping all families will pause to make their home a safer place for their children. Please read about Meghan and learn from us too.
This got a little too close to home for us this year.
We had our furniture secured in the old house.
Then we moved and had securing the furniture to the walls on our to do list. We had the kits just didn’t make the time.
We got busy.
The boys were older so we weren’t as stressed out about it. But, it was on our list.
Then when I read about this woman’s story it reminded me that I wanted to get our furniture secured.
More time passed.
We had Alice, got busy with other things. Then one day Joel was in the bathroom with Miles, I was downstairs with Alice and I sent Graham upstairs to pick out a shirt to wear and BOOOM! The dresser that the boys had been in and out of a hundred times tipped over because Graham had pulled out all the drawers at once and pulled on it. LUCKILY the dresser was stopped by the bottom drawer being pulled all the way out and Graham wasn’t trapped. All the things on top of the dresser slid off. I don’t know how Graham walked away unhurt. Someone was definitely watching over our family that day.
PLEASE secure your furniture to the walls.
No matter how old (or young) your kids are. No matter how independent you think they are.
Secure your furniture.
The very next thing Joel did that day was pull out those secure kits and secured all the furniture. It was too close for our comfort that’s for sure. Please learn from our story and toddler proof your house.
