I’m headed to California on Thursday with Graham to visit my sister and her family so my birthday wasn’t really on my radar this year. As the weekend grew closer I had a couple emails from people asking what I wanted to do for my birthday and after another day we suddenly had a very full weekend of activities.
Thank you to everyone who made my day so special. Especially as a mom of three tots it’s nice to get special attention.
After a twin club Halloween party Saturday morning, followed by attending our buddy Devon’s 3rd birthday party I enjoyed a nap on the couch (to help get over my head cold) and then Tim and Zandra brought us a yummy pizza dinner in honor of my 36 years. Mark joined us after work and we had a great time hanging out after the kids were in bed telling stories, catching up and remembering some of our favorite highlights from our college years. The best thing about the whole night was keeping the tv off and phones down (mostly) and just enjoying each others’ company. There were no selfies or hastags to document the night. We just enjoyed each other.
Sunday was my actual birthday day and it started off right with Joel getting up with our kids to give them breakfast while I enjoyed an extra hour in bed. When I came down at 9am there were cards and hand drawn pictures waiting for me. Then we did chores and I took the boys grocery shopping in preparation of our parents and siblings coming over for a day full of noise and laughter. There was a bit of a bumpy afternoon due to bad behavior on the toddler front but Joel put the fear of God in them and by the time the rest of the family arrived we were doing pretty well.
We had my parents, Joel’s parents, my sister from California and Joel’s brother and sister-in-law all over for a chili potluck dinner with plenty of beer and lots of playing with the kids. AND chex mix. My mom makes a killer chex mix and it always manages to show up at holidays and parties. I was so busy during the week that I didn’t even have a chance to hope that she would show up with chex mix. But luckily she remembered and baked away bright and early so that I could have my birthday staple. That and chocolate cake, there was a LOT of chocolate cake.
I’ll have to follow up with pictures later in the week after we share with each other. I once again did a wonderful job of just enjoying the company of everyone and left my phone on the counter the whole day.
Happy October Everyone!
