We stumbled across two delightful books in the library last week.
The Last Stop on Market Street by Matt De La Pena and
Who Put the Cookies in the Cookie Jar by George Shannon
Both have a wonderful message of thinking of others and being aware of the greater world around you. I was surprised by the message in both stories, not aware that they would have a deeper meaning than the covers let on. I thought the bus book would just be about hearing the sounds and seeing the sights on a bus ride but it turns out the child and grandma get off the bus to go serve a meal to the homeless. The cookie book was not just about the people who put love into baking cookies for kids to enjoy but also thinking about the farmers who make the ingredients used in the cookies, the people who made the cookie sheet, who sewed the oven mitt, and with beautiful illustrations it’s a must read.
I’ll have to get some more posts done about our latest favorite books – we currently have 32 books checked out from the library!
